Question 1

Is this PDF to Markdown converter free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Convert PDFs up to 20 MB and 200 pages without signing up. Conversion runs in your browser.

Question 2

Are my PDF files uploaded?

Accepted Answer

The converter reads and processes your selected file locally in your browser. It does not upload the PDF or its extracted text to a server.

Question 3

Can I convert scanned PDFs?

Accepted Answer

This tool extracts an existing text layer. It does not include OCR. Image-only pages are reported so you can run OCR separately and try again.

Question 4

Will headings, tables and images be preserved?

Accepted Answer

When a PDF has complete structure tags, the converter uses their heading levels, paragraphs, lists and reading order. Otherwise, it estimates structure from text positions and document-wide font sizes. Clear two-column layouts are detected, but complex pages need review. Tagged table rows and cells remain text; images, clickable links and exact table formatting are not reconstructed.

Question 5

What if the reading order looks wrong?

Accepted Answer

Automatic mode prefers complete document tags and otherwise uses layout detection. If the result looks wrong, select PDF content order and convert again. This preserves the order of text in the PDF content stream, which may differ from the visual order. Neither mode can repair missing or incorrectly encoded text.

Question 6

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

Accepted Answer

If you are authorized to open it, expand Password-protected PDF? and enter its password before converting. The password stays in the browser.
