Refrigerator Power Calculator

Estimate fridge electricity consumption from its annual energy label, measured daily kWh or a compressor-cycle model. Compare yearly running cost with your current refrigerator if you have its consumption figure.

Inputs

Use the annual units on this model’s label. Test conditions can differ from your home.

Electricity rate

Editable example. Use the rate on your bill.

Currency changes the display unit, not the rate. No exchange-rate conversion is applied.

Refrigerator running cost

Estimated month running cost

₹197.2624.658 units (kWh) in 30 usage days
Estimated energy and running costs for the usage schedule entered
PeriodUnits (kWh)Cost
Usage day0.822₹6.58
Month (30 usage days)24.658₹197.26
Year (365 usage days)300₹2,400.00

Average wall power over 24 hours: 34.247 W. Annual label values are averaged over 365 days.

Running energy cost only. Fixed charges, taxes, subsidies and utility-specific tariff rules are excluded.

How this calculator works

Prefer measured energy or the annual label

A refrigerator stays connected all day but its compressor need not run continuously. Annual energy-label kWh already incorporates the applicable test cycle. Measured kWh over several days can better represent your home’s settings, ambient temperature and door-opening pattern.

Model the compressor cycle when needed

The fallback model combines compressor-on power during the entered duty fraction with compressor-off power during the rest of a 24-hour day. For a variable-speed inverter fridge, a single duty fraction is only a rough approximation. Do not apply the duty factor again to label energy or measured daily kWh.

Read the comparison as a cost difference

The optional comparison subtracts this fridge’s estimated annual energy from the current fridge’s entered annual kWh. A positive cost difference means a potential saving; a negative number means the proposed fridge costs more at the entered electricity rate.

Calculation formulas

Daily energy from annual label = Annual kWh ÷ 365Daily kWh (cycle model) = 24 × [On W × Duty + Off W × (1 − Duty)] ÷ 1,000Annual cost = Annual kWh × Rate per kWh

Worked example

Illustration: a label showing 300 kWh/year costs ₹2,400/year at an example ₹8/kWh. Its daily average is about 0.822 kWh; a 30-day average is about 24.66 kWh and ₹197.26. Home use can differ from the label test.

Understanding the estimate

All prefilled powers, usage patterns and rates are editable examples. This tool runs locally in your browser. Energy-only estimates are not complete electricity bills, and comparisons are scenarios rather than guaranteed savings.

Frequently asked questions

Should I multiply a refrigerator’s rated watts by 24 hours?

Not unless that figure is a genuine 24-hour average. Compressors cycle or modulate, so a continuous full-power assumption can overestimate use. Prefer annual label energy or measured daily kWh.

Does annual-label mode apply a duty factor?

No. Label energy already comes from a test cycle. The calculator divides it by 365 for daily averages without adding another duty adjustment.

Why does measured fridge use vary?

Room temperature, thermostat setting, door openings, food loading, defrost cycles and appliance condition can affect energy use. Measure across several normal days rather than a short compressor-on interval.
